Robatech wins prestigious design competition

Robatech AG won over the full jury of the prestigious “red dot awards” with their innovative hotmelt Speedstar™ Diamond application heads. The Swiss company achieved the coveted “red dot” in the field of Product Design.

This year 1800 manufacturers and designers from 58 countries competed for the “red dot award”. This is the seal of quality for aesthetic form and sustainable trends. The internationally recognised design competition is advertised by the Design Centre in North Rhine-Westphalia. The award includes the areas of development and manufacturing of leading Robatech AG adhesive application systems. A 30 person jury made up of top class international experts had the difficult task of reviewing 4515 products. They considered different criteria such as the level of innovation, functionality, self-explanatory quality and ecological compatibility. Robatech’s electromechanical Speedstar™ Diamond application heads belong to this year’s winners, achieving one of the coveted awards.

New standards with regard to speed, precision and safety

The “red dot award” rewarded Speedstar™ Diamond application heads convinced the jury in multiple respects, for example for their speed, durability, precision and safety. Extremely short operating cycles allow small and precise adhesive dots of up to 800 per second. A newly patented sealing concept gives the Speedstar™ Diamond application heads a much greater longevity than conventional heads, even in temperatures up to 185°C and a viscosity of 2500mPas. The stroke of the shut-off pin controls and monitors automatically, allowing the heads to work more precisely. The repeat accuracy is thus unique, whereby the dot size and position can be guaranteed without manual re-adjustment over its life.

Ecological, safe and intelligent

Another advantage is that less adhesive is used as the dot or bind size is smaller. Speedstar™ is isolated by the safeguarded plastic casing of the SX Diamond series, which clearly improves energy efficiency and protects operating personnel from burns. The heads are small and slim and are able to be assembled in smaller spaces. The electronic devices integrated in the head permanently control and monitor the functions and signs of wear are automatically readjusted. An integrated counter allows for foreseeable maintenance and an integrated LED display continuously informs the user of the head’s condition.

Speedstar ™ Diamond in the “red dot design museum”

Along with other outstanding products, the Speedstar™ Diamond application head is presented in the red dot design museum “design on stage-winners red dot award: product design 2012” exhibition. The museum was previously located in the Zollverein Coal Mine converted by star architect Lord Norman Foster. It belongs to the most impressive industrial buildings of the first half of the 20th century. With more than 1500 exhibits and an area of more than 4000 square metres, it is the largest contemporary Design exhibitions worldwide. The current winning products of the product design “red dot award” will be on display for visitors from 3 July 2012 for 4 weeks in a particular part of the “red dot design museum”, before being permanently introduced. Those interested can also find out more information online about the Robatech Speedstar™ Diamond application heads from 3rd July 2012 through www.red-dot.de.
